Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 2026

Last Updated: July 2026

Core Privacy Promise

FamilyBudgetCalc is designed from the ground up to protect your financial privacy. All budget calculations happen locally in your web browser. No financial data — including income, expenses, debt amounts, or budget scenarios — is ever uploaded to any server.

This is fundamentally different from budgeting apps that require linking your bank accounts. With FamilyBudgetCalc, your financial data never leaves your device.

What Data We Do NOT Collect

  • No income or expense data: Budget inputs are never sent to our servers.
  • No saved scenarios on servers: Budget scenarios saved in the “Budget Log” tab are stored in your browser’s localStorage — not on our servers.
  • No bank account information: We do not support, and will never ask for, bank account credentials or API access.
  • No email collection through calculators: We do not ask for, or store, your email address through any calculator feature.
  • No login required: You can use every calculator without creating an account.

localStorage & Saved Scenarios

The “Budget Log” feature stores your saved budget scenarios in your browser’s localStorage. This data:

  • Is stored on your device only
  • Is never transmitted to FamilyBudgetCalc servers or any third party
  • Is cleared when you clear your browser data
  • Has a practical limit of ~5MB per domain (standard browser limit)

If you clear your browser cache/cookies, your saved scenarios will be permanently deleted. We recommend periodically using the “Export to CSV” feature to back up your scenarios.

Google Analytics (Website Analytics)

FamilyBudgetCalc uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), operated by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use our site. This helps us improve our calculators and content for real users like you.

What GA4 collects:

  • Anonymous usage data: pages visited, time spent on pages, device type, browser, approximate geographic region
  • A unique anonymous identifier (Client ID) stored in a cookie on your browser
  • Referrer information (how you found our site)

What GA4 does NOT collect:

  • Any financial data you enter into our calculators (income, expenses, debt — none of this is sent to Google or anyone else)
  • Your name, email address, or other personally identifiable information
  • Any data from your saved budget scenarios

GA4 uses cookies (typically named _ga and _ga_*) that remain on your browser for up to 2 years. You can disable GA4 by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, using your browser’s cookie settings, or via the Google Ad Settings page.

Google’s use of your data collected through GA4 is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.

Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising

FamilyBudgetCalc uses Google AdSense to display advertisements on this website. AdSense is Google’s advertising program that serves relevant ads based on page content, user context, and browsing history.

How advertising works on our site:

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies (such as DoubleClick cookies) to serve ads on our site
  • These cookies may be used to show you ads based on your visits to this site and other websites
  • Google may also use data it has about you (from your Google account activity) for ad personalization
  • AdSense partners with advertising networks and exchanges that may also set cookies when ads are displayed

Important distinction: Advertising cookies are completely separate from our calculator functionality. Your budget numbers, income figures, and financial data are never shared with advertisers or used for ad targeting. Our calculators process everything locally — ad networks have zero access to your financial inputs.

You can control advertising cookies:

  • Visit Google Ads Settings to opt out of personalized ads
  • Visit Your Online Choices (NAI opt-out) managed by the Network Advertising Initiative
  • Use your browser’s cookie settings to block or delete cookies at any time
  • Note: opting out of personalized ads does not reduce the number of ads you see — it makes them less relevant to you

Google’s advertising privacy practices are detailed at Google’s Advertising Technologies page.

Server Logs & Hosting

FamilyBudgetCalc is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like virtually all web hosts, Cloudflare may log:

  • Your IP address (for security and DDoS protection)
  • Browser type and version (for compatibility)
  • Pages visited (for anonymous usage analytics)

These logs do not contain any financial data you enter into the calculator. Cloudflare’s privacy practices are governed by their Privacy Policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/

Email Reports

The “Email Report” button uses your device’s mailto: function to open your local email client. The report body is copied to your email draft locally — it is not sent through our servers. If the report is too long for mailto (URL length limit), a copy modal appears so you can copy the full report text manually.

Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

FamilyBudgetCalc does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Since we do not collect personal information through our calculators, this is inherently respected. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can delete it.

Your Rights (CCPA / GDPR)

FamilyBudgetCalc is committed to transparency about data practices. Here are your rights:

  • Right to know what we collect: See sections above — we do not collect financial data; only non-personal analytics via GA4 and standard server logs apply.
  • Right to delete your data: Clear your browser localStorage and cookies. This removes all locally-stored data.
  • Right to opt-out of sale: We do not sell personal data. For advertising-related controls, see the AdSense section above.
  • Right to data portability: Use the “Export to CSV” feature in the Budget Log tab to download your saved scenarios.
  • California residents (CCPA): You may request information about our data practices by contacting us. We do not sell “share” personal information as defined by the CCPA.
  • EU residents (GDPR): Our lawful basis for processing limited analytics data is legitimate interest (improving our service). You may object at any time by disabling GA4 as described above.
